Proposed Spending Boosts for Departments of Defense and Transportation

The House Appropriations committee is expected to vote next week on increased spending for several departments, including the Departments of Defense (DOD) and Transportation.

The committee is proposing $508 billion for the DOD and $68.8 billion for the Department of Transportation-HUD for fiscal 2010.

The proposal includes an increase in discretionary spending from $1.012 trillion in FY09 to $1.086 trillion in FY10.

Increases are also expected in the State-Foreign Operations bill from $36.6 billiion to $48.8 billion, and in the Dept of Labor spending, to a proposed $160.7 billion in fiscal 2010.

Other increases are proposed in the Depts of Agriculture, Energy & Water; Financial Services; Homeland Security; Interior-Environment; the Legislative Branch; and Military Construction-VA.
