Perhaps
you have heard about a "GSA Contract"
but you're not exactly sure what it is. How can it help you to market
to the federal government?
-
The
GSA Schedules program gives federal agencies a simplified way to
purchase commercial products or services, knowing that they are
getting the best possible prices from pre-approved vendors.
-
There
are 43 different Schedules, and each one covers a specific type
of product or service. Remember however that each schedule contains
contracts with many different contractors, all of whom can supply
items of a particular description. Even with a GSA contract you
will still be competing with other companies who sell similar products
or services. With many options available to them, the agency can
choose the one that best meets their particular needs.

GSA
estimates $40 billion in sales in FY2007 via GSA schedule
contracts
38% of sales will go to small businesses

- The GSA's online
ordering system GSA Advantage! ®
allows agencies to order over 3.2 million of these products and services
via the internet
- When you submit
a GSA proposal you tell the agency who you are, what you do, your
terms and conditions, and your pricing structure. You MUST offer the
GSA at least the same pricing structure that you currently offer to
your most favored commercial customer. Once you have been awarded
a GSA contract number, you will be able to post your products and
services onto a government website known as GSA
Advantage! ® This allows purchasing agents from
federal agencies all over the world to purchase your products or services,
and gives you exposure throughout this marketplace. The contract is
for two years with three one-year options, followed by three five-year
options.
